Six of Seattle's neighborhoods were annexed to the city 100 years ago. These include Ballard, Columbia City, Southeast Seattle, South Park, Ravenna, and the Mayor's "home town" of West Seattle. The Mayor's Office and the Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs is organizing events throughout the City to commemorate this important milestone. On July 17, 2007, at 6:45 p.m., Mayor Nickels will open up the Hi-Yu Festival's "Concert in the Park" at Hiawatha Park. During this time, the Mayor will also acknowledge and celebrate the unique history of West Seattle. The West Seattle Big Band will play from 7 to 8:30, bring your blanket for a lovely concert in the park!
