The Gatewood PTA has begun working on a phased master plan to improve the playground. The existing playground includes an asphalt play area, a grass playfield, and a big toy area. The master plan will include renovations that will take into account safety, opportunities for creative play, environmental education opportunities, and reasonable maintenance practices allowable within the Seattle School District.

The improvements will include an amphitheatre type arena, look-out areas, and a new school/park sign on Frontenac. Fund raising efforts will take place this Fall, but the majority of matching funds will be met through volunteer time and labor. Volunteers are now needed to work on ivy removal and repair of existing equipment (call Carla Larson, 938-5435) Notes of planning meetings will be posted on the MoCA website or gatewoodelementary.org/
The project schedule calls for the master plan to be completed by Fall 2006. |
